Working in partnership with former Mayor Joe Adame and then Mayor Nelda Martinez, E2E established the Education/Workforce Committee in October 2015. Realizing that a skilled, quality workforce is a key driver for sustained economic development, community influencers came together to address the need for increased educational attainment. The Committee developed the City’s first Education/Workforce Strategic Plan with the postsecondary attainment goal of “Sixty percent of the Corpus Christi population will have a postsecondary certificate or degree by 2030.” The goal, which is aligned with the state’s higher education goal, was approved as part of the Corpus Christi Education Strategic Plan on October 30, 2017.
Priorities of the plan include the following:
1) Improve awareness and preparation for postsecondary education and careers throughout the P-16 system;
2) Use data to drive decisions and create a compelling call to action; and
3) Enhance collaboration and partnerships among education, business, industry, and community organizations to align student skills with workforce needs. Members of Education/Workforce Committee includes the Corpus Christi mayor; city leaders; superintendents from the six Corpus Christi school districts; presidents from Del Mar College (DMC), Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC), Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend (CTCCB), Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend (WFSCB), and United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce (UCCCC); and executive directors of community-based education and workforce organizations.
