This is the topic to be explored at next the P-16 Council Leadership Luncheon on April 18 at the Del Mar College Center for Economic Development. The keynote speaker will be Victor B. Saenz, Ph.D., a nationally acclaimed researcher who’s been studying why young men in Texas, especially minority males, fall behind their female counterparts when it comes to high school graduation, post-secondary enrollment, or college completion. Dr. Saenz will present his latest findings and explore how a rapid decline in young male achievement is impacting areas such as Coastal Bend. Several best practices and solutions will also be presented.
Dr. Saenz is the Executive Director of Project MALES and co-author of Men of Color: Ensuring the Academic Success of Latino Males in Higher Education. He is an assistant professor of higher education administration at the University of Texas Austin and a Faculty Affiliate with the UT Center for Mexican American Studies. He is also a Faculty Fellow with the UT Division of Diversity and Community Engagement and a Faculty Associate with the UCLA Higher Education Research Institute.
